Cost of living
The living cost in the Czech Republic is lower than in most of the European Union’s member states. That makes it a perfect destination for an exchange study stay.
A student needs approximately CZK 8,000 – 12,000 (EUR 320 – 480; USD 340 – 510) per month to cover basic costs such as food, accommodation, and transport. The cost of living always depends on individual needs, requirements, preferences, and the student’s standard of living.
The average meal price at the restaurant is around CZK 200 (EUR 8.00; USD 8.50); in the student refectory, the price is usually CZK 75 to 150 for a meal (EUR 2.99 – 5.99; USD 3.20 – 6.40). Food costs may be lower or higher, depending on your choice about where and what you will eat.
The cheapest monthly ticket for public transport for students under 26 years old is CZK 250.00 (EUR 10.00; USD 10.60). There is also a possibility of purchasing a ticket for three (3) months for CZK 640 (EUR 25.55; USD 27.25). The cheapest monthly ticket for adults over 26 years is CZK 490 (EUR 19.60; USD 20.85), three (3) a months ticket is available for CZK 1,290 (EUR 51.50; USD 55.00) and available six (6) months ticket is for CZK 2,120 (EUR 84.60; USD 90.30).
One-way train ticket to Prague for students under 26 years old with valid ISIC card costs around CZK 230 (EUR 9.20; USD 9.80). One-way train ticket to Prague for students over 26 years old costs around CZK 475 (EUR 19.00; USD 20.25).
Average prices of fuel are:
- Gasoline (Natural 95): CZK/litre 36.30 (EUR 1.45; USD 1.55).
