Social safety at TBU
Definition of the term “social safety”
Social safety can be defined as an ideal situation at a place where the behaviour and actions of all the persons present are naturally guided by the principles of collegiality, integrity, equality, respect, openness and attention to others, and where any form of undesirable behaviour, intimidation, aggression, bullying or discrimination is considered unacceptable, regardless of whether it regards students or employees at the university.
We see the area of social safety at TBU as an essential part of our efforts to create an open, safe, fair and ethical academic environment not only for all students and employees, but also for those who pay a visit to the university or cooperate with the institution. We want to create a friendly environment and climate in the academic world to maximize academic freedom and develop students’ and employees’ talent.
A socially safe university environment is an environment in which:
- each person has a safe place to study and work;
- people treat each other with respect and dignity;
- each person is given an opportunity to develop his/her talent;
- there are people/centres/counselling centres that provide support and help to those who are facing concerns, dilemmas, dealing with complaints or problems affecting their academic or work performance;
- there are clearly defined boundaries of behaviour, transparent and accessible processes, and penalties imposed on those who violate such rules.
