Zlín Commemorated Thomas J. Bata
4. September 2018Thomas Bata Foundation, representatives of the town of Zlín, as well as the University and the general public commemorated the 10th death anniversary of Thomas J. Bata in the garden of the Bata villa on 31 August 2018.
Thomas J. Bata, son of the legendary founder of the shoe company, after whom our University has been named, had been supporting the idea of establishing TBU from the very beginning and he happily agreed to the University being named after his father, and he became the first Chairperson of the TBU Board of Governors.
Thomas J. Bata enjoyed meeting students and used to attend all important events held at TBU. He was also in regular contact with the University management. He held the office of the Chairperson of the Board of Governors from the establishment of the University in 2000 till 1 September 2008 when he died in Toronto, Canada, at the age of 93.
