TBU Will Help Liven Up the Zlín Film Festival Supporting Programme
29. May 2024Tomas Bata University (TBU) in Zlín will once again get involved in the International Film Festival for Children and the Youth, which will be held in the town from 30 May to 5 June 2024. TBU students participate both in the preparation and the implementation of events carried out within the Festival throughout Zlín, either as part of their studies under the guidance of their teachers or as volunteers.
As now customary, the so-called Star Honorary Doctorate will be awarded. “This year, the Star Honorary Doctorate will be conferred by Prof. Milan Adámek, TBU Rector, on actress Tatiana Dyková, actor and illustrator Matěj Forman and actor Petr Forman. The event will be held in front of the Grand Cinema in Zlín on Tuesday, 4 June 2024. Since 2007, when the “Star Honorary Doctorate” was awarded for the first time, 20 celebrities have received the award,” said Andrea Kadlčíková, Director of Marketing and Communications at TBU.
In addition to the Star Honorary Doctorate, new stars will be unveiled on the Walk of Fame. The event has been put on traditionally in cooperation with the Kapka naděje foundation (Drop of Hope Foundation), which supports small haematology and oncology patients. This year, the Foundation will hold a fundraising concert, for which TBU provided financial support in the amount of CZK 30,000.
Zlín Film Festival is primarily intended for children, which presents a great challenge for future teachers, for example. As part of the Film Festival, the Faculty of Humanities (FHS) of Tomas Bata University in Zlín, Department of School Education, offers entertaining and educational activities and workshops for children aged 5-10 and attending nursery or primary schools. Schools can choose one of the three programmes offered by the FHS and focused on current topics and sustainability.
Bullying, stalking and harassment in cyber environment will be one of the topics tackled. The following questions will be debated: What is actually happening on the internet? How to cope with the digital world that we live in, and who may we come across on the Internet? What is risky communication, risky content or uncritical acceptance of information?
The second topic will cover the issue of environmental sustainability, in particular waste sorting, recycling and reuse of various materials; while the third topic will focus on the Olympic Games and active lifestyle.
As has already become customary, the Faculty of Technology will open its Mysterious Laboratory. This year’s theme is the presentation of polymer materials of the future, which are used, for example, in the production of the popular LEGO kit. The laboratory will be located on náměstí Míru (Peace Square) in the centre of the town. Children will surely enjoy various experiments and microscope work.
The Faculty of Multimedia Communications will also be involved in the Festival – it will provide broadcasting from the new Fénix multimedia studio throughout the entire event. In addition, animation workshops for primary school pupils and secondary school students will be held.
