TBU Mourns the Loss of Assoc. Prof. Josef Kacr
21. September 2023On Thursday 14 September 2023, doc. Ing. Josef Kacr, CSc., an exceptional personality at TBU, first Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Technology of the Brno University of Technology in Zlín and the first and long-time Head of the Department of Economics and Management of the Consumer Goods Industry of the Faculty of Technology, died at the age of 97.
Assoc. Prof. Kacr was instrumental in the establishment process of the Faculty of Management and Economics (FaME), where he spent most of his professional life. In his specialization, he provided education and guidance to a number of economic and technology engineers, as well as to doctoral students at the two Faculties. His domain was business economics, management and ethics in business. His contribution to the creation of a Bachelor’s programme taught at the Tertiary Technical School of Business run at the Business Academy in Zlín is also worth mentioning.
Assoc. Prof. Kacr was a renowned and popular teacher, who was able to pass on his knowledge to students in fundamental contexts and with an appropriate insight. For his outstanding contribution to the establishment of economic education in Zlín, he received the Rector’s Award, Award by the Governor of the Zlín Region for the Best Teacher category and a number of other – even international – awards. He was regularly assessed as one of the best teachers in surveys conducted among students at the Faculty of Technology and the Faculty of Management and Economics.
He was a passionate sportsman and a long-time Chairman of the University Sports Club at the BUT FT. In recent years, he devoted his time to recording the historical context of higher education in Zlín.
