Success Achieved by TBU Students at the World Cycling Championships in Scotland

Tomáš Horák, a student of the Faculty of Logistics and Crisis Management, and his teammate Radek Adam put in an excellent performance at the joint World Cycling Championships, which took place in Scotland from 3 to 13 August 2023, with fifty Czech competitors participating in all cycling disciplines.

This big event was hosted by the Scottish cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. Indoor cycling competitions, i.e. cycle-ball and artistic cycling, were part of the programme during the last three days. Two young Zlín-based cycle-ball players were members of the Czech team: Tomáš Horák (22) and Radek Adam (23). Facing strong competition from 13 countries, they achieved great success, taking fourth place. The World Champions title for this year was won by Germany, second place went to Switzerland and third place to Austria.

Last year, Tomáš and Radek played in the First League, later on advancing to the Škoda Extraliga. The beginning of the season in the Extraliga did not look very promising, but, in the course of the season, their results were getting better, with the best result coming at the Czech Championships 2023, where they became only the second and, at the same time, the youngest team coming from Zlín to win the title of the Czech Champions in the elite category. The fact that they had qualified for the World Championships in cycle-ball, where they took a great fourth place, was the icing on the cake.

However, the next tournament coming up, the last one of the season, is scheduled to be held on 25 November 2023, when the World Cup finals in cycle-ball will take place in Zlín at the DATART sports hall. Here, the Zlín–based players will again compete against the world’s top athletes and fight for the top positions.
