Prof. Petr Sáha, Rector Emeritus of TBU, Receives Honorary Doctorate from the University of Pardubice

October 2022Prof. Petr Sáha, Rector Emeritus of Tomas Bata University in Zlín and polymer expert, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by Prof. Libor Čapek, Rector of the University of Pardubice. He received the degree of doctor honoris causa for his outstanding contribution to the development of science and research in the area of polymer chemistry.
“Prof. Petr Sáha is one of the most influential people in the Czech Republic. He has been cooperating with our institution for a long time, and is also a member of the Scientific Board of the University of Pardubice. He thoroughly deserves being awarded the degree of doctor honoris causa. I appreciate the decision of the Faculty of Chemical Technology to propose Prof. Petr Sáha as a candidate for the honorary degree,” said Prof. Libor Čapek, Rector of the University of Pardubice.
Between 1991 and 1997, Prof. Sáha held the post of Dean of the Faculty of Technology (located in Zlín) of the Brno University of Technology (BUT), between 1997 and 2000 he was the Vice-Rector for Development at the BUT. He was highly instrumental in the establishment process of Tomas Bata University in Zlín, and in 2001, he became the first Rector of TBU. He held the office of Rector from 2001 to 2007 and from 2010 to 2018; moreover, he was the President of the Czech Rectors’ Conference for two years. Prof. Sáha focuses on materials engineering, polymer processes, medicinal polymers and composite systems. Since 2001, he has been the Director of the Polymer Centre of the Faculty of Technology of TBU in Zlín. Between 2008 and 2009, he was the Director of the Department of Applied Research of the TBU University Institute. Between 2005 and 2009, he held the office of the President of the Polymer Processing Society located in Kansas. He initiated the establishment of Bata Centre in Vietnam, which aims to support cooperation between institutions in Vietnam and Czech and European universities. At present, he holds the post of Vice-Rector for R&D and Creative Activities at TBU in Zlín. Since 2002, Prof. Sáha has been a member of the Scientific Board of the University of Pardubice.
The ceremony, which was held in the Arnošt from Pardubice Assembly Hall, was attended by a number of significant guests, including, e.g. 25 representatives of Czech universities, Mayors of Pardubice and Hradce Králové, a representative of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, members of the Board of Governors of the University of Pardubice and its partners.
