Paramedic – New Degree Programme at TBU
4. October 2024From the next academic year, Tomas Bata University in Zlín will offer a new degree programme to applicants, namely Paramedic. Thanks to the newly obtained accreditation, those interested in obtaining this qualification will be able to do so at the Faculty of Humanities (FHS).
It will be a three-year, full-time Bachelor’s programme designed to prepare graduates with the professional competence to practice as paramedics. “Paramedics are the first line of patient care in acute, life-threatening situations. Their quick decision-making, professional knowledge and skills are essential for providing initial care and subsequent transport to medical facilities or in emergencies,” says Libor Marek, Dean of the Faculty.
The Bachelor’s programme will focus on the acquisition of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in first aid, emergency medicine, disaster medicine and other disciplines. Students will complete their specialized practical training in hospitals, rescue services, but also in the Police of the Czech Republic, the Fire Brigade of the Czech Republic or the Water Rescue Service. During their studies, future paramedics will learn to work with the latest technologies and modern ambulance equipment.
In preparation for the accreditation, the TBU worked intensively with regional institutions that are also very interested in the paramedic course.
“I very much appreciate the intensive cooperation with the Zlín Regional Authority, the Ambulance Service of the Zlín Region and Tomas Bata Regional Hospital. Without this cooperation we would not have been able to complete the demanding accreditation process,” said Prof. Milan Adámek, TBU Rector.
“I am very pleased that Tomas Bata University has succeeded in obtaining the accreditation of the paramedic degree course, thus bringing this specialisation back to the Zlín Region after many years. We would like to provide more study opportunities and introduce other medical fields in the region, and this is one of the important ways for the Zlín Region to attract medical personnel in the future,” said Olga Sehnalová, Zlín Regional Councillor for Health.
Applications for the degree course in Paramedic will be accepted from January 2025. Information about the admission requirements and the admission procedure itself will be published on the website of the Faculty of Humanities of Tomas Bata University in Zlín, www.fhs.utb.cz. It is expected that 40 students will be admitted to the first year of study.
Another in-demand medical field for which TBU, in cooperation with Tomas Bata Regional Hospital and with the support of the Zlín Region, is currently seeking accreditation is Radiology Assistant.
