Festive Gathering of the Academic Community of TBU in Zlín

On Wednesday, 20 March 2024, festive gathering of TBU academic community and a PhD graduation ceremony took place at Tomas Bata University in Zlín. During the academic ceremony, letters of appointment were handed over to newly appointed Associate Professors, and newly appointed Professors were presented.

A total of 44 graduates completed their studies in doctoral programmes last year, out of which 16 were international. 6 Associate Professors completed their habilitation procedure. 7 new Professors were appointed, out of which 2 completed the professorial appointment procedure at different Czech universities.

Prof. Milan Adámek, TBU Rector, also conferred the Rector’s Award on Prof. Martin Zatloukal for outstanding R&D activities and on Dr. Lubomír Sedláček for his contribution to the development of educational activities at Tomas Bata University.

Professor Martin Zatloukal has been long involved in applied rheology of polymers, and thanks to his numerous unique results, he has become a world-renowned expert in this field. As a result of his many years of efforts, Tomas Bata University in Zlín has been globally perceived as a top research institution in the area of applied rheology of polymers. In addition to basic research, Prof. Zatloukal also focuses on development activities in applied rheology. He was appointed Professor at the age of 32, thus becoming the youngest Professor in the Czech Republic. Prof. Zatloukal is also an excellent, popular and highly-respected teacher.

The second awardee is Dr. Lubomír Sedláček, an experienced teacher who has been working at Tomas Bata University in Zlín for more than 20 years and has educated thousands of university students. He teaches mathematics at the Faculty of Applied Informatics, the Faculty of Management and Economics and the Faculty of Humanities. He is also actively involved in the popularization of mathematics among attendees of the University of the Third Age, and as part of a joint project implemented in cooperation with the Zlín Regional Authority, he also provided support to gifted secondary school students through specialized seminars.
