“Experience Science” Festival Attracts Hundreds of Secondary School Students
28. April 2025The “Experience Science” Festival organized by the Faculty of Technology welcomed more than 900 secondary school students and more than 200 public visitors over two days. Visitors learned interesting facts about light, the microscopic world of molecules, artificial intelligence, and the colonization of Mars.
Attendees to the Festival had the opportunity to choose from 22 interactive workshops on current scientific topics. The workshops were repeated, with a total of 154 workshops held at the Faculty of Technology. Of these, 17 were open to the public on Tuesday afternoon, while the remaining workshops were intended for secondary school students.
During the 45-minute sessions, visitors tried out hands-on experiments in various fields of science – from chemistry, physics and materials science to cosmetics, gastronomy and the environment. “For example, the “From Material to Toy” workshop demonstrated the process of making building blocks from mold design to plastic injection molding. The “Let There Be Light” workshop introduced the quantum nature of light and its use in modern science. During “The World Behind the Mirror” workshop, participants learned about the microworld of asymmetric molecules and how changes in their spatial orientation can affect human senses and health. They also explored nutrition, chocolate, artificial intelligence, and the colonization of Mars.
The Festival was attended by students from 20 secondary schools, 16 from the Zlín Region and other schools from the South Moravian, Olomouc and Vysočina Regions.
