Summer School Courses Attracted Students from Around the World
19. August 2024Starting on Monday, August 5th, Tomas Bata University in Zlín hosted the eleventh edition of its Summer Schools, welcoming 44 students from 16 different countries, including Belgium, Latvia, Greece, Portugal, South Korea, France, Japan, Zimbabwe, and China. The students participated in four courses, held both online and in person.
Two of these courses were conducted online by the Faculty of Logistics and Crisis Management: “Processes of Risk Assessment and Treatment” and “Global Environmental Challenges and Security.” These courses provided students with valuable knowledge and skills in risk assessment and global environmental challenges, along with the opportunity to gain international experience from the comfort of their homes.
The remaining two courses took place on-site in Zlín. At the Faculty of Management and Economics, students engaged in the course “Quantitative Tools for Qualified Managerial Decision Making,” which equipped them with practical tools for quantitative analysis and decision-making in management practice. The Faculty of Applied Informatics hosted the course “Cybernetics and Informatics,” where students delved into the world of information technology and cybersecurity. This course was also offered for the first time under the Erasmus+ program as a Blended Intensive Program (BIP), allowing participants to engage in both in-person and online sessions.
In addition to the educational program, several social activities were prepared for the students. These included a tour of the Zlín skyscraper with a historical overview of the Baťa company, a welcome reception, and presentations of various countries and universities, offering students the chance to get to know each other better and form new friendships. The program also featured a visit to Cominfo, where students not only attended a company presentation but also had the opportunity to explore the production processes.
To successfully complete the courses, students passed a final exam and received certificates of participation and achievement, presented during a ceremony at the TBU Rectorate, attended by Vice-Rector for Internationalization, Prof. Marek Kubalčík. He thanked the students for their active participation, confirmed that TBU plans to continue offering summer schools in the future, and encouraged participants to consider exchange studies or internships at TBU. “Once again, we have confirmed that organizing Summer School courses at TBU is meaningful. Students are enthusiastic about the course content and organization, appreciate the quality of the laboratory facilities, and overall rate the study environment at TBU very highly. I hope to see some of them again during an exchange study program or internship,” said Prof. Kubalčík.
