Zlín Regional Authority Will Provide CZK 200 Million to Support the Construction of a New Building of the FT

The Board of Representatives of the Zlín Regional Authority approved the provision of a subsidy of CZK 200 million to Tomas Bata University in Zlín (TBU) for the construction of a new building of the Faculty of Technology at the end of April. The new building will be constructed near the Zlín bus station on the site where the building known as U1 had been located before its demolition in 2023. In connection with this, the Board of Representatives also approved the conclusion of a contract with the University, in which TBU undertakes to create an opportunity for at least 400 new students to study in seven new degree programmes.

The construction of the new FT building, which is expected to start this September and is supposed to be completed in 2026, will provide facilities for students in Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral programmes, in specializations focused on chemistry, engineering, progressive advanced materials and technology, food industry and healthcare. The total costs of the project, including the supply of technological equipment and furnishings, are estimated at CZK 650 million.

“We greatly appreciate the cooperation with the Zlín Regional Authority, which is very intensive and well underway. The subsidy provided by the Zlín Regional Authority will cover about a third of the costs; another third will be funded by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the rest will be paid by TBU from its own resources. We are happy that the management board of the Zlín Regional Authority is interested in assisting in the enhancement of higher education in the region and makes efforts to keep our graduates in the region, which is crucially important,” said Prof. Milan Adámek, Rector of TBU.

“We support education and the creation of new programmes and we believe that together with Tomas Bata University we will be leaders in the overall development of the Zlín Region,” said councillor Jiří Jaroš.

As regards the new degree programmes to be offered by TBU, classes are expected to be taught within the following four programmes in the 2027/2028 academic year: Engineering and Manufacturing Technology (a minimum of 120 students), Paramedic (a minimum of 20 students), Food Technology and Evaluation (a minimum of 60 students) and Materials and Technology (a minimum of 60 students). In the 2028/2029 academic year, degree programmes in Radiology Assistant (a minimum of 20 students), Gastronomy and Nutrition (a minimum of 60 students) and Semiconductor Materials (a minimum of 60 students) will be introduced.

“In the contract, TBU also undertakes to enable a minimum of 1,200 students to use the newly constructed building of the Faculty of Technology every year, to obtain accreditation for 12 degree programmes to be taught in English language, to organize – in cooperation with the FT – 500 lectures for primary and secondary schools and 100 lectures for the general public between 2025 and 2030,” said David Vychytil, Deputy Governor. It is also expected that TBU will provide at least 285 internships for its students abroad and for international students at the Faculty of Technology in Zlín between 2025 and 2030.
