Students Will Present the “No Man’s Land” Project at the Anniversary Edition of Designblok
26. September 2023“No Man’s Land” is the title of a joint project implemented by the Fashion Design, Photography and Spatial Design Studios of the Faculty of Multimedia Communications (FMC) of Tomas Bata University in Zlín, which will present the work of FMC students at the 25th annual Designblok international design festival scheduled to be held from 4 to 8 October 2023. The TBU part of the display will be shown in the Trade Fair Palace, the largest exhibition space of the National Gallery Prague. This year’s topic is JOURNEY.
Selected students of three FMC Studios chose the topic of “No Man’s Land” for the exhibition. Students of the Spatial Design Studio have designed a set where mhttps://fmk.utb.cz/en/odels created by seven students of the Fashion Design Studio and works of students of the Photography Studio will be on display. Their topic can be understood in the figurative sense of the word as an inner landscape, a space that needs to be filled. It can also be a need for expression, a stance, or a statement. In this “no man’s land”, students address current social issues, respond with their own inner sensitivity, and open up new paths.
“The main focus is on interdisciplinary cooperation and on a dialogue between members of young generation. The whole presentation can be conceived as an experiment and playfulness in close relation to the perception of oneself and of one’s surroundings,” says Kristýna Petříčková, Head of the Fashion Design Studio, about the exhibition.
The students drew on a wide range of inspiration. The key words of Žofie Soldánová’s collection entitled The Quest for Meaning are the following: Closedness, overload, contrast and zen.
“My inspiration was the rushing rhythm of our lives. The models symbolize the daily routine of the working week, with the feeling of being overwhelmed leading to a global frustration in the society, which resonates inside the models,” adds Žofie Soldánová, a fifth-year student of the Fashion Design Studio.
Designblok is the largest design and fashion show in Central Europe.
