Results of the Final Round of the Show-off Competition
28. March 2023Go ahead and show off! For the past 12 years, this has been the motto of the Show-off contest, a reputable English presentation skills competition organized by the Language Centre of the Faculty of Humanities of Tomas Bata University in Zlín.
The final round of the competition was held on attractive premises of the FHS on 22 March 2023. This year’s edition was again organized in cooperation with secondary schools, therefore, besides university students, the best secondary school students also had their own category.
Both juries were made up of leading figures from TBU as well as significant partners and TBU students. The jury assessed not only the content of the presentations, but also the linguistic and visual aspects. And the topics were definitely interesting – Working in a diverse (multinational/multicultural) team, The challenge of my life, Do we speak the same language? The contradiction between generations, How to deal with one’s own failure. The jury faced a difficult decision, because the level of students in both categories was, as always, very high.
The winners from among Czech and international university students were granted scholarships of CZK 5,000, CZK 3,000 and CZK 2,000. All participants received certificates and many valuable prizes – TBU bombers, sweatshirts and T-shirts.
Moreover, winners in both categories received vouchers for the prestigious P.A.R.K. Cambridge language exam as well as valuable prizes from ExxonMobil, all participants could enjoy goodies from Nestlé, delicious coffee and tea from Oxalis and fragrant surprises from Notino. This company came up with an offer of work shadowing, which is an opportunity to work together with an experienced company manager during one day. Notino representatives chose not just one but two students – Simona Mojžíšková from the FHS and Eliška Ostroborodová from the FaME, who were more than happy and are looking forward to this work experience. A perfect link between theory and practice.
